Radiant Self Counseling LLC

Heal from your past and re-connect to your inner radiance

Online Integrative Trauma Therapy for Adults in Pennsylvania and Ohio

I help neurodivergent adults with chronic illness and complex trauma re-connect to their core selves in order to find purpose and regain inner stillness.

Sometimes it can be hard to find a silver lining, and you might be feeling like…

You’ve been in therapy forever are still not where you want to be

Your triggers control your life, and you question who you are aside from what you do for others

No matter how hard you try, something feels off or missing

You’re tired of living a life that isn’t in alignment with your values

You have never felt like you truly belong, and struggle to make and maintain meaningful relationships with others

Your childhood wasn’t “that bad” in relation to others, but you can’t seem to recall many memories of it

You struggle with chronic pain and fatigue, and are feeling unheard by medical providers- you may even be told your symptoms are "just in your head”

If you’re feeling like I’ve re-written your inner most thoughts above,

I get it. I’ve been there too.

I know what it’s like to feel alone in the healing journey, and to feel like no one is on your side. For years I grappled with persistent and pervasive physical discomfort and emotional unease. Despite seeking answers from numerous professionals, I was often met with skepticism, dismissal or outright denial of symptoms. To feel like your concerns are being trivialized, leaves you questioning your own reality.

I began to question myself, often leaning into the notion that it was all “in my head”, leaving me wondering if there was something fundamentally wrong with me. I longed for answers- for validation, understanding, and effective support; however, those needs often went unmet mirroring my experiences growing up with an emotionally immature adult at home. No healing journey is ever complete, but having someone who understands your experience makes all the difference.

As a late diagnosed neurodivergent trauma therapist who has experienced the complexities of developmental trauma, loss, grief, chronic illness and medical gaslighting, I bring a unique perspective to my practice. My approach is deeply rooted in empathy and a holistic understanding and honoring of you as a whole person- with a mind, body, and spirit. I found solace, strength and relief in practices that allowed me to re-member my inner self and help me navigate Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome (hEDS), PCOS, and chronic fatigue in a way that feels authentic and supportive.

You deserve a provider who believes you.

When you work with me, I walk alongside you- I may have experienced similar things, but you are the expert of your own experience. It is important to me that clients feel they are co-creating a space where they feel comfortable and heard.

By combining my training, lived experience, and intuition, I gain a deeper understanding of your unique needs and goals. I do not view you as a diagnosis, but a dynamic individual navigating the human experience. I believe that traditional therapeutic spaces can be further isolating when clinicians are not affirming to important parts of a client's identity such as gender, sexuality, or race.

I am a LGBTQ2S+, minority and disability affirming therapist.

Specialties

  • You've been called “too sensitive”, a people pleaser, or co-dependent.

At times you feel like you don’t have a sense of who you are, or feel ruled by family roles.

You may have difficulty interacting with your family of origin or feel consistently drained emotionally, mentally and physically when you spend time around them.

If this sounds like you, you're not alone.

You may have experienced a childhood where you were parented by emotionally immature (EI) adults. This type of parenting occurs on a spectrum, with parents ranging from mild emotional immaturity to narcissistic personality disorder.

Together we can work to process how this type of parenting has impacted you throughout your lifetime.

    • You'll learn to identify your wants and needs and feel confident in doing so.

    • You'll learn to set boundaries with your family and others in your life

    • You'll learn to prioritize yourself and honor your emotions

    • You'll learn to engage in mindfulness and increase self-awareness

    • You'll find what makes you happy, and feel more confident making changes in your life to fulfill your hopes and dreams independent of others' opinions

  • Trauma is a completely normal reaction to abnormal events. Most people will experience some type of trauma in their lifetime.

Complex trauma differs from single incident trauma in that it is the experience of multiple, often severe traumatic events over a long period of time such as ongoing mental, physical, or emotional abuse and manipulation, neglect, or violence. These experiences impact one's ability to trust in themselves, feel safe, and relate to others.

The impact of developmental or complex trauma can be deep and long-lasting causing difficulty in emotional regulation, self-esteem, and relationships.

Dissociation is a normal human experience; it's something that we all do to protect ourselves in some way. However, when dissociation occurs as the result of complex trauma it can leave you feeling detached from yourself and the world around you, disconnected from your own body and emotions, and it impact your memory.

You can achieve remission from complex trauma and dissociative symptoms.

    I work with clients to

    • Re-member what happened to you, what didn't happen for you, and what should have happened

    • Learn the truth of your life and reconsolidate traumatic material so that you can uncover the person you were always meant to be

    • Find purpose in your life and re-establish your relationship with yourself

    • Work towards finding psychological safety and learn resourcing techniques such as breath work, somatic embodiment, and spiritual resourcing

  • Just because your labs come back normal, or there doesn’t seem to be an exact diagnosis does not mean that your pain is not real.

Chronic illness and pain often go hand in hand with stress, past trauma, and intense emotional experiences. No, it's not in your head. We can't ignore that stress can influence how pain is felt and managed over time.

My integrative approach to gaining more balance helps you to address the feelings associated with your lived experience of your condition, and helps you navigate the health care system with more confidence, empowers you to advocate for yourself, and find providers who you can put your trust in.

    What you'll get

Validation and understanding for your lived experience

    • A safe and supportive environment where you are heard and respected.

    • Integrative trauma work to explore how your past influences your condition and pain which leads to more personalized treatment strategies in your mental and physical health care.

    • Empowerment and advocacy: learn tools and strategies to better navigate the health care system and advocate for your needs to ensure you receive the care you deserve

    • Process the fact that we even have to have these conversations in the first place.

  • You might not have had the words to describe your experience, but you know that something isn't adding up.

Maybe you've watched your peers have fulfilling friendships and you always felt like a "floater" or "outsider" bouncing between friendships but never really had a best friend like everyone else.

You might have been told you had an emotional regulation disorder or were defiant or lazy, and you might struggle with executive functioning skills like finishing projects, having time blindness, or are consistently feeling mentally fatigued.

"late diagnosis" means exploring the possibility on your own, or receiving a diagnosis most commonly of ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, OCD. This also includes sensory processing difficulties, dys-lexia/calculia, and dysgraphia, tourettes, epilepsy, trauma, developmental disabilities, alexithymia, among other differences in processing information.

My experience is working mostly with ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD.

    Together we will

    1. Process the trauma that you've endured living in a neurotypical world

    2. Process the grief and other emotions that come with living your crucial developmental years without the support you needed

    3. Learn skills to support your executive functioning and emotional regulation

    4. Examine patterns of behavior, thought process, and coping that you'd like to keep and that you'd like to learn alternatives for

    * you do not need to have had a formal diagnosis to work on these concerns. If this is something that you are wanting to explore further, we will weigh the pros and cons of an "official" diagnosis and you will be referred out to trusted clinicians who provide official assessment should you so choose.

  • Interested in things like energy work, tarot, astrology, human design, or other eclectic modalities?

I love using unconventional methods in the therapeutic space and draw on my own experiences in my spiritual journey to inform my practice. Learn more below.

You deserve a provider who affirms your identity

  • Healing happens when we have a safe space free of judgement to be ourselves and explore how not having had these spaces throughout development can be traumatic.

I'm openly a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community and have professional training in women and gender studies.

Graduate Certificate- Women and Gender Studies- West Virginia University- August 2020

  • Are you in a non-monogamous relationship, or want to explore if Ethical Non-Monogamy/Consensual Non-Monogamy (ENM/CNM) might be for you?

I believe that there is no one right way to engage in relationships and am comfortable advocating for, and supporting you in these spaces.

I believe that there are no topics that are too taboo or off limits in the therapy space. You deserve to have a space to process your thoughts and feelings unfiltered and real within the context of your relationships.

Sexual expression and exploration is an important part of the human experience, and is something that can be freely talked about without judgement.

  • As a disabled human myself, I get what it's like to feel the grief, and anger than can come with chronic illness and disability.

We work together to outline your unique needs based on your own lived experience. No two people who have the "same" disability experience it the same.

Together we will identify ways to improve your quality of life in alignment with realistic expectations for your disability.

  • I do not have lived experience living in the current political climate as an ethnic minority.

I come from an Italian-American and Celtic-English background and practice my spirituality in alignment with the practices of my ancestors. That being said, I recognize the immense privilege that I hold being of European descent. I believe that we are all here in the United States as the result of cultural colonialism and stealing of land in the Americas.

My ancestors were a part of this colonial practice, and I recognize how I have benefitted off of these practices throughout time.

I am committed to learning, and furthering my competency in cultural considerations in the therapeutic space.

You can expect to be met with compassion and understanding in your experiences. If there is anything important about your identity that you feel I am not versed in, I am willing to do the work to understand your experiences better.

I can't guarantee that I won't make mistakes, but I can guarantee that when confronted with a mistake, I will do my part to do the work to learn and repair the rupture to the best of my ability.

The soul longs for its own truth. It blindly avoids anything that is false or insincere; it instinctively savors the real. The beautiful struggle of the human heart happens when the truth is sought aloud and within. - Anam Cara

We are a whole beings.

We just need to re-member our roots

My practice is deeply informed by my own spiritual journey and is ever evolving. What does this mean in the psychotherapy space?

  • I believe that spirituality is not just something to explore within the walls of a church, but something that is to be experienced on an individual level while interacting with the earth.

I grew up with an Italian Catholic influence and have worked to deconstruct my beliefs, striving for balance and exploring the paths of my ancestors. Nature is my "church", and I formally identify as an eclectic Pagan mostly informed by Celtic practices.

Paganism in this context refers to a broad umbrella of spiritual practices and beliefs that honor the connection that we as humans have with the earth, celebrating the divine in various forms, and embrace a holistic existence.

  • My therapeutic practice is informed by the natural cycles of the earth; this can involve the following:

    • Spending time outside and using the earth as a re-source for grounding and connection

    • Paying mindful attention to the cycles of nature such as solstices and equinoxes to reflect on growth and transitional phases

  • Paganism is rich in symbology and mythology that can be used therapeutically to

    • Examine different aspects of the personality through utilizing the archetypes of deities or mythological figures

    • Draw on myths and stories as metaphors for personal growth

    • Explore creating personal rituals for significant life events and incorporating ceremonial practices that align with pagan traditions to promote healing

  • Together we look at your belief systems as a whole and parse through the things you would like to keep, and foster new areas of exploration and growth. I support you in

    • Exploring and understand your unique beliefs and practices

    • Creating a sacred space to process your past and look to your future through a trauma-informed and spiritual lens

  • Paganism embraces a holistic view of the human experience and views each individual as a dynamic being with physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual difficulties.

We work together to focus on the barriers you may have to feeling empowered and take an active role in the healing process.

When we work together, you are encouraged to bring in your own creativity through any medium that resonates with you.

  • Pagan traditions honor ancestors of the biological line as well as the spiritual lineage.

We work together to get you re-connected with and have a better understanding of your ancestral heritage and examine how it impacts you in the present.

We explore how family or cultural histories have influenced your personal identity and life experience across timelines.
