FAQ

  • Do I need therapy?

Anyone can benefit from therapy. If you are having difficulty managing your emotions, feeling overwhelmed or experiencing a change in your behavior or a life change, you could benefit from speaking with a mental health professional. Everyone experiences life transitions; even if you think things are going well, there is always something to talk about with a therapist.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

Prior to your session, you will complete an intake questionnaire so that I can learn more about why you are coming to therapy. The first couple of sessions will focus on building a relationship and identifying your goals. Not every therapist is a good fit for everyone, it can take a few sessions to feel comfortable. It’s important to me that you feel as comfortable as possible. Give the process a chance before deciding whether or not your therapist is the right fit for you. If you feel like we are not a good fit, I can provide you with referrals for another provider.

  • Will I feel better right away?

That depends. Therapy is an investment in yourself, and there are no magic wands. You will need to practice the skills you learn and be as vulnerable as feels right for you. You get what you put into the process. We will review progress periodically to ensure you are on track to meet your goals.

It is my intention to make sure that you leave every session with something new to try.

  • Do therapists really care?

The short answer is, yes! I am passionate about the work that I do. My ultimate goal is for you to decrease the frequency of care and ultimately complete your treatment. I enjoy watching others become introspective and make the changes necessary in their lives to be their most authentic self.

  • Are there any issues or types of clients you don't work with?

My practice is focused on adults, and I work with clients from all walks of life. During your free 15 minute consultation and then intake process we will determine together if outpatient therapy is the appropriate level of care for you, and if we are a good fit for each other.

Those who are experiencing a mental health crisis or are in active addiction may be referred to a different level of care. We will decide together what is the best course of action based on your symptoms and my scope of practice.

  • How do I know that what I say is confidential?

Therapists are mandated reporters meaning that we must report if our clients or other vulnerable populations are in eminent danger. We are bound by an ethical code (American Counseling Association) that guides how we handle these and other situations. Unless you give us written permission with a release of information, what is said in your session stays in the session. It is encouraged that while utilizing Telehealth you are located in an area you feel comfortable talking in.
